My Journey

I was diagnosed with Postpartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) in 1992. I was given six months to live, had an ejection fraction (EF) of 3% and a B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) of 2500+. I had no idea what it was or why it was happening to me. It is still little to no information about what causes this deadly disease with no cure in sight.
I had several heart-related setbacks. My heart has relapsed 15 times. Had a defibrillator implanted in 2010, a very silent heart attack in 2012, open heart surgery in 2013, 2019, and 2020. Stage 4 heart failure and a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) surgically implanted in 2019.  I received my heart transplant in March 2020.
